Greater by Steven Furtick

ImageGreater by Steven Furtick book review.

The book as the title suggests is about doing greater things. Not necessarily a large project but to just look at your day-to-day life and how to do it well. It is a very light-hearted easy read. Furtick uses a lot of pop culture stories and keeps your interest throughout the book. If you are stuck in a rut this would be a good read for you.

If we all took Furtick’s advice this world would be a better place. I would give the book 3 out of 5 stars.

I received this book for free from WaterBrook Multnomah Publishing Group for this review.

Fearless by Eric Blehm book review

Fearless is a great book of  an American hero that we all long to be. Our hero overcomes obstacles over and over again. He just has a spirit that won’t give up. He refused to be a victim, he choose to be a over comer. We all could learn this valuable lesson in life.
This book does have a little graphic content to it so I would recommend it for ages 13 and up. This is a must read for ever guy ho wanted to be or do more. To live a life of adventure and integrity. Men it’s time to do the right thing and lead by example.

After reading the book I passed it along to a friend who said that it was so good he couldn’t put it down.

This book was give to me by the publisher for my honest review.

Man Alive book review

Man Alive: Transforming Your Seven Primal Needs into a Powerful Spiritual Life (Paperback)

By Patrick Morley

When I received this book I was thinking great another book about how men need to be men. I had read Wild at Heart a couple of times and it just didn’t work for me. But I was intrigued after reading the description I thought I would give it a try.

The book really comes down to knowing the word of God. Without it we really don’t know who we are. There isn’t a quick fix for our lives it is only done through transformation by knowing God and who we are in Him.

Patrick addresses our primal needs and how to fulfill the needs. Below is a list of our primal needs:

1. To feel like you don’t have to do life alone
2. To believe that God knows, loves, and cares about us personally
3. To believe life has a purpose and isn’t random
4. Being able to break free from destructive patterns
5. To satisfy the soul’s thirst for transcendence, awe, and communion
6. To love and be loved without reservation
7. To make the world a better place.

It includes a study guide that would be great for a small group to go through.

I received this book for an honest review from the publisher.

When Bad Christians Happen to Good People: book review

Amazon Link

When Bad Christians Happen to Good People: Where We Have Failed Each Other and How to Reverse the Damage by Dave Burchett.

Dave really makes you think a lot in this book about our actions as so called Christians. As a Christian society we have hurt many people. I know I have and my daughter have. The things that we can do in the name of Christ can be appalling. I would highly recommend any Christian to read this book and live out the action steps.

I am not that crazy about Dave’s writing style. He uses a ton of one liners that don’t always benefit in clarifying his statements. But the content overall is really good.

The Purpose Driven Life

The Purpose Driven LifeWhat on Earth Am I Here For?

By Rick Warren

The Purpose Driven Life What on Earth Am I Here For?

I have to admit when this originally came out ten years ago I was a true fan. I was in a church that was all about doing instead of being. This fit perfectly with that model. I am not saying that this is not a good book or that Rick isn’t a great leader. If you are searching for your identity in Christ it can help lead you in the right direction. Just be cautious that you don’t get caught up in the doing instead of the relationship.

That being said the tenth anniversary edition does have some additions to it. There are video links that you are directed to through out the book. I love when authors have additional content like this. They are also audio links and an online community to help with your journey. Rick added a couple chapters as well.

This is not a book really on my list of recommendations but that is probably because of the baggage I bring to the party.

I was given this book by the publisher for an honest review and you did get an honest review.

Running for My Life

Running for My LifeOne Lost Boy’s Journey from the Killing Fields of Sudan to the Olympic Games

By Lopez Lomong, with Mark Tabb

Run For My Life

Running for My Life is a story about Lopez Lomong and his life of torture as a Sudan Lost Boy. But it doesn’t end there. He has a dream, a dream to run in the Olympics for the United States of America. This is his journey of how it came to be a reality.

The story of Lopez Lomong has really made me look at my life in a different perspective. After reading it you will have a greater appreciation of the many blessings we have but take for granted. One of the quotes from the book that really spoke to me was:” I knew I had the ability to make my dreams come true, but it is one thing to believe in yourself. It is something else entirely to have friends believe in you as well”. It made me realize the importance of believing in your friends.

This is a must read in my opinion. You will not be disappointed and you won’t be able to put this book down.

It won’t be long at all

I have been watching a video from Everlast called “Long At All” over and over again today. It is amazing the truth that is in this video. Not just the song lyrics but the comments made by the man in it.

It is a shame that we get so caught up in the things that really don’t matter. We get caught up in having the newest and best things in life. We get caught up in what we want others to think we are instead of  who God made us to be. We get caught up in ourselves instead of being there for others. Amazing how we as humans have lost the importance of love in our lives.

I heard a statistic that even with all the new ways we have to communicate we are more lonely than ever.  I just wonder if we truly showed love to others how would it effect our world? If we just cared enough about our neighbor or even a stranger to walk alongside of them on their journey we would have a lot less lonely people. People are people there isn’t anyone better than the other. We are all just messed up hurting people that need love and grace. Lets be a people of second chances and love well.

Let all that you do be done in love. 1 Corinthians 16:14 ESV

God is More Than Enough book review

God is More Than Enough

by Tony Evans

Tony Evans has taken Psalm 23 and wrote a short book about it. He really unpacked a lot of stuff that I have never really though about. He really shows you why God is more than enough. I was very skeptical about an entire book being written on the 23rd Psalm but after receiving it and seeing that it was only 70 pages long I was good to go. Tony unpacks the Psalm one verse at a time.

It is a very easy read and I would recommend it to others. Most of us have read this passage many times but Tony adds some fresh light to it. It give it 4 out of 5 stars.

I was given this book by the publisher to do an honest review.

Red Letter Revolution book review

Red Letter Revolution

What If Jesus Really Meant What He Said?

By Shane Claiborne and Tony Campolo

I was very excited to receive this book to review. A book by Tony Campolo and Shane Claiborne should be a home run. I love how Shane makes you really think about some tough topics. We don’t always see eye to eye on the issues but you have to love a book that makes you think. Tony has a huge amount of wisdom and passion that you just have to love. So what do you get when you mix these two together? A great concept that seemed to be rushed to get to printing. I know I will take some flack about this but the hole dialog back and fourth just didn’t work for me.

The one thing that I do take away from this book is to go back and reread the words of Jesus and to do what He says. So to that I thank you. It will challenge some of your thinking so I give it 4 stars.

I was given this book to read and blog my honest opinion about it by the publisher.
